I am hidden just beside the doorway, peeking at Jung-Min.  He doesn't see me; he is too focussed at whatever he is looking at in his wallet.  His eyes glitter like water drops under his raven black hair, soft in the light from where I am standing.  He is in his own little world, full of cotton candy and Mat.. I think.  When is he ever going to let go of her?  Let Mat move on, I silently plead, let her be free of your shackles which weigh her down like a heavy load of guilt on her poor shoulders.  You stupid man, can't you just leave her be?  I'm irritated just thinking about this.  Urgh.
"I'm off to the gym."
"Pizza will be here in an hour or so."
"I'll be back then."
I slam the door shut on my way out.
*****
I'm about to enter Min Hyung's room when I see he is in a sort of daze, looking at something in his hands: his wallet.  I want to turn back round when I hear him say:
"Omo ah-Joon, what's up man?"
"Nothing, just..."
He tilts his head in question.
"Just wanted someone to chill'e out with.  Saeng and Jong Hyung are watching tv and I'm not up for that."
"Oh come in then!"  Hyung lazily brushes away the clothes on his bed, "what's up with you?"
"Boredom."
He smiles.  "Same, same-" his stomach growls, "and waiting for the pizza."
There is silence for a few moments, none of us speak.
"So-"
"I-"
We both start.  Hyung laughs.  "You first."
"What are night clubs like?"
"What?"
"What are night clumbs like?"
"I heard what you said but," Min asks: "why do you ask me?"
"Well, I only assumed you went to clubs at night because you always come back late... often drunk."  With lipstick prints on your face and messed up hair.
"Were you spying on me recently?"
"I heard you once: you were stumbling and making a racket and mumbling at around 1 in the morning."
He blushes, biting his lower lip.
"Don't tell Joong Hyung, understand?"  Min makes me promise him.
"I understand."
He sighs, leaning back on his bed.  "Night club isn't all fun as you think," he begins, "it's best if you bring someone with you to enjoy it with, not alone."
"Why did you go there in the first place?"
"A few weeks ago, someone told me I should get out more and so I did."
"Why did he say that?"
"S-" Hyung is about to say something when he stops himself abruptly, uncertain whether to say it or not.  Closing his eyes, he carries on: "That person thought I was lonely."
"You're with us everyday," I state, "clearly he doesn't know you very well."
"Yeah, clearly."  He chuckles.  A pause.  "ah-Joon, have you ever really liked someone but they didn't like you back?"
"Yeah, once."  I admit, remembering this hot girl in high school who always made my words stutter and made me swoon.
"What did you do?"  He sits up, staring intently at me.
"I bucked up the courage to ask her for a date."
"And?"
"That was the worst thing anyone could've done... in front of the class."
"You did it in front of the class?!"
"Well, it was lunch time and me and my guys were sitting at the back and she and her friends were in the middle.  I walked up to her and asked.  Worst moment was when she began to laugh in my face and that laugh acted like a ripple because everyone was laughing, including my friends."  I shook my head, sighing.
I feel a hand firmly but gently pat on my back.
"I'm sorry for bringing it up."
"I regretted it so much," I continue, turning to Min: "but I would do it again for someone I really love."  I pause.  "Don't comepare that girl to Mat," Min retreats back into his position, "Mat is nothing like that girl in high school.  She is worth fighting for."
"You know," Min's quiet voice vibrates in the air, "that person who said I should get out more is Mat."
Saying nothing, Hyung carries on: "Just when you think you've found someone perfect, who ticks all the boxes as the perfect partner for you and she throws it back into your face.  Why is that?"
"I don't know-"
"I want to hate her so much but I can't.  What should I do."
"You can't make her love you back because it doesn't work that way," I say, "but Hyung, you can be better than a lover can ever be."
"What will that be?"
"Be a friend to her.  Be her close friend, someone who she can confide in when she has problems, financial, family, friend or even relationship.  For me, if I can't be the lover then I'd definitely aim to be her close friend."
Hyung laughs silently.  "When did you become a guru?  Why have you grown up so fast?"
"Nah mate," I say, "I'm still the youngest of the group so I still get to act like a kid whereas you guys can't."
"You pimp," Hyung grabs me playfully from behind, tickling under my arms, "I'm so glad to have you with me."
The doorbell rings, the smell of delicious pizza waffles in the air.
*****
My mobile rings, the unknown number is not of this country's.
"Hello?"  I answer.
"Matttt," a familiar voice is loud in my ear, "I'm so glad you picked up."
"Adèle!"  I exclaim, hearing my sister's voice brings back memories, "ça va?"
"Oui, bien merci-"
"Pourquoi me téléphoner à cette heure?!" I demand for it is 25 past three in the morning in France, "Quel est le problème?"
*****
I bite into the pizza, the cheese and tomato melt in my mouth.  I swallow.  A sharp and piercing pain scorched my throat, making me drop the slice back on the plate, my hand clamps onto my neck.
"Are you okay, Hyung?"  Jong asks me, "Too hot?"
"Pizza's fine," I say, "someone call Hyung, it's been ten minutes."
"He's fine," Min says, "there's some cream soda in the frdige, help yourself."
"Errr.. thanks."  Min seems normal somehow...  Ouch.
I push my chair back, walking over to the kitchen, retrieving a can of soda.  Drinking the cool beverage feels so good in the heat.
"Better?"  Min asks.
"Fine."  I pick up the bitten pizza and swallow the mouthful.  I wince at the same short but sharp pain which bites into my throat.
"Maybe we should call the doctor or something-"  Jong starts.
"Doesn't matter," I wave dismissively, "It's probably because I've been singing a lot recently."
"Could be-"
The door opens and closes, Hyung strides in all his muscular glory.
"You can finish mine."  I say to him, getting up and retreating to mine and ah-Joon's room.
